AFTER meeting the Dr Jekyll side of his new Swindon Town team away at Cambridge United, it only seems right new manager Phil Brown got to meet the Mr Hyde aspect of his squad last weekend at Exeter City.

Despite starting the game well and taking the lead, all the old habits and problems that have riddled Town this season were on display.

Swindon enjoyed more of the ball throughout the game but whenever the home side attacked, you knew central defenders Chris Robertson and Rollin Menayese would struggle to cope.

I understand our best defender Dion Conroy has missed most of the season and Matt Preston picked up an injury at the worst possible time, but it goes back to poor recruitment in January when we were short of talent in that position.

You can tell it’s been a bad weekend as a Town fan when the most entertainment was found at Portsmouth against Oxford United, where Swindon fan and former club captain Nathan Thompson goaded and mocked Oxford player Alex Mowatt after missing a vital penalty.

It was great to see Nathan release all the hurt and anger built up in him from last season when he was abused by Oxford players at the County Ground and gave just a little bit back.

Tomorrow at the County Ground and next Monday in West Sussex, Town play two of the most important games of the season, as they host 19th-placed Morecambe before visiting 13th-place Crawley Town.

If Brown’s side show up and put on a performance to show they are still serious about promotion this season, we should walk away with the three points on each occassion and push our way into contention for one of the play-off spots, as a place in the top three now appears increasingly unlikely.

But as we know with this great sport we love, anything could happen, from finishing 10th to landing a spot in the top three.

And the games over this Easter weekend will go a long way in deciding which way we’ll be heading over April.
