CALNE Town’s new management duo believe commitment is the key as they aim to restore some positivity at Bremhill View after a difficult last campaign in the Toolstation League First Division.

The club started last season with Neurin Jones at the helm before he resigned from his duties, only to be replaced by Dave Ferris, who was subsequently axed from the manager’s role at the end of the season.

Ben Redford and Clive McDaid are the men who have been handed the task of improving on last year’s second-from-bottom finish in the league for the Lilywhites.

Redford, who was a coach at the club alongside McDaid last season, believes a lack of commitment from senior players cost them dearly last term.

“I know Clive through football, we have been doing the same things for a few months now,” said Redford.

“To be honest, it is a totally different ball game in that league (compared to previous experience), it is going to be a tough season, we know that.

“The idea is to improve on last year and compete. Last year they had a lot of young lads and it was their first season at that level.

“Then they had the senior players who weren’t committed and they were picking and choosing their games.

“We want a consistent squad. If you’re going to commit to the side, you have to commit every Saturday.”

McDaid echoes the thoughts of his management partner, and thinks there is no reason why the club can’t aim to finish in mid-table next season.

“The club needed a bit of stability and Calne approached us, so we took the job,” added McDaid.

“We didn’t want to be reserve team managers anymore so we decided to take the plunge and go out on our own.

“We’ll be playing fast flowing football, with the players that we have got coming in, there will be a lot of pace in the team.

“The middle of the table would be a nice finish but you never know what problems we will come up against at this level of football.

“Numbers are looking good at the moment so we are looking forward to getting everyone in for pre-season and getting on with it.”
