MANAGER-LESS Calne Town ended a tough season on a low note as they were thumped 5-1 by Bishops Sutton this weekend.

The club parted ways with boss Dave Ferris after the previous week’s 4-0 win over Chard Town, chairman Garry Murphy taking charge of the first team alongside players Marcus Lovesey and Jamie Lloyd-Davies.

In their final two fixtures the Lilywhites succumbed to two defeats, also losing 2-1 to Roman Glass St George last Wednesday.

“There were only two games for us to complete. The problem we have had this season is with players’ commitment,” said Murphy.

“We have had a few players step up to the plate over the last couple of games but commitment has definitely been an issue.

“We managed to get teams out and to be honest the first game was a very good performance and we were unlucky not to get a win.

“Unfortunately a lot of the players were away on Saturday and we only managed to have 12 players available.”

The Calne chairman believes the Lilywhites are in a promising position already after some early interest in the manager’s post.

“We have had a very positive committee meeting with regards to next season and going forward,’’ added Murphy.

“Over the next couple of weeks we are going to look at those who are coming forward and then go ahead with interviews.

“The committee definitely think we need a strong candidate for next season. Who that is going to be at the moment, we don’t know.”

Nigel Tripp signed off as Corsham Town boss with a 1-0 win over Portishead Town, thanks to Josh Bright’s solitary effort. Brett Partner’s Chippenham Park wrapped up all three points at home to Almondsbury UWE as Jamie Norman and Aaron Ledgister fired them to a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Devizes Town were 2-0 winners over Cheddar, courtesy of goals from Alistair Bradley and Daniel Sloan.
