HAVING lost 4-0 at home to Trowbridge Windows-sponsored Trowbridge League Division One champions Luxol St Andrews on the opening day of the season, Chris Birleson’s Freshford United put themselves very much back in the title race as they avenged that loss with a 4-1 success at Lacock.

A below-par Luxol fell behind to a Phil Little goal after an assist from Nick Ross.

Eliot Carris-Smith got Luxol back on level terms prior to half time but after the break the game was bossed by Freshford.

Gavin Eyre regained the lead for the villagers after being set up by Dave Percival.

Ian Groves, on for the injured Phil Little, had a debut to remember.

Ross played him in to make it 3-1 and his second of the afternoon from a Eyre assist wrapped up the win that takes Birleson’s chargers into second place.

After taking the spoils from their top of the table clash with Luxol St Andrews a fortnight ago, Dave Jenkins table-toppers Melksham Town A avoided a potential skin to their title hopes by beating Hilperton United 6-0.

Leading 2-0 at the break through goals from Sean Fordham and Danny Harrison, they added a third early in the second half and sealed their latest success with three goals in the final 10 minutes.

Fordham adding two more to complete his hat-trick, Harrison claimed his second of game before Zack Hillier’s single made up the half dozen.

Trowbridge Town Reserves remain in the drop zone following a 7-0 defeat at Warminster Town Reserves.

Carl Clarke and Kurt Dawson with his first goals for the club scored two each.

Greg Richardson, Brendan Hind and Sam Clift added the others.

Bottom of the table Heytesbury made the short trip to Westbury Town where the hosts courtesy of a 6-0 victory claimed the bragging rights until the teams meet again later in the campaign.

Goals in the 17th and 18th minutes from Dale Rowland put Westbury 2-0 up.

Westbury then went 4-0 in front with Gary Tugwell and Jack Hayward each scoring in the 25th minute.

Ben Spong made it 5-0 on 58 minutes and Rowland added number six in the 78th minute to complete his hat-trick before Heytesbury had Jamie House sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

Relegation-threatened Westbury United Reserves picked up a valuable point from their goal less draw with Semington Magpies.

With neither team managing to net a winner it was Westbury’s Tony McElhone who went closest to breaking the deadlock in what was a dour affair with a shot that hit the post in the first half.

With Trowbridge League sides Luxol St Andrews and Three Daggers safely through to the semi-finals of this season's Wiltshire Junior Cup, Jayson Stokes' cup holders Stockton & Codford joined them in the last four courtesy of a walkover they received when Cirencester League, Division One opponents Wheatsheaf Stratton unable to raise a team.
