DEVIZES Town boss Darran Walters was delighted with his side’s midweek response as they picked up their third win of the season against Westbury United.

A double for Jamie Walters plus a goal each for Jamie Wallen and Robert Mitchell meant all three points went back to Nursteed Road in a 4-0 win.

It was the perfect reaction to Saturday’s game when Robert Mitchell’s goal was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat to Portishead Town.

Walters said: “I was delighted with it after Saturday.

“It was a nice game to come back to, a local derby, the players needed no motivation.

“We played well and deserved the win, we scored just before half time and then got the second just after half time which settled us down.

“Saturday was disappointing because we just gave the game away, a few poor mistakes and errors gave them three points.

“I’m happy with the start (to the season), although we have drawn a few which we should have won but we are in a good position, we have some tough games coming up which will tell us where we are.”

Devizes will be on the road again for their next fixture, when they travel to Keynsham Town on Saturday afternoon.

Malmesbury Victoria also recorded a 2-1 Tuesday night victory over Corsham Town, courtesy of goals from Shane Bumphrey and Josh Hughes, substitute Ben Pring on target for the visitors.

This stretched the Vics’ unbeaten run to five matches having picking up a point on Saturday against Hengrove Athletic in a 0-0 draw.

Vics, promoted from the Wiltshire League last season, have enjoyed their home comforts since their only away trip on the opening day of the season, but will have to hit the road at the weekend for their game against Bishop Sutton.

Chippenham Park and Calne Town also earned themselves three points on Saturday with the former winning 4-1 against Bishops Lydeard.

Park’s win saw them move one point off of top spot, they will be hoping to get closer still when they visit Warminster Town at the weekend.

Calne were 3-2 winners over Radstock Town thanks to a double from Mark Dolman and an effort from Stuart Windsor.

Neurin Jones’ Calne will look to build on their second win of the season when they welcome Ashton and Blackwell United to Bremhill View on Saturday.

Jaiden Savery netted the only goal as Corsham Town defeated Wellington 1-0 at the Southbank on Saturday.
