CORSHAM Town were sent crashing back to earth with a bump after a crushing defeat away at promotion chasing Wells City.

Jeff Roberts’ side thumped local rivals Devizes Town 5-1 last time out but they were almost on the receiving end of that scoreline in Somerset.

Nathan Rendell put Wells in front, although Corsham replied through Luke Bryan.

That was as good as it got for Corsham as City re-took the lead thanks to Jake Brown’s penalty before James Batchelor made it 3-1 at half-time.

There was more misery for Town before the end when Aaron Allen got the hosts’ fourth goal.

Corsham are due to travel to Oldland Abbotonians tonight and host Westbury United on Saturday.

All not Well for Devizes

THREE second-half goals from title chasing Ashton & Backwell United saw lowly Devizes Town suffer a heavy home defeat on Tuesday night.

Darran Walters’ side were still in the contest when half-time arrived, with the score still goalless, up the visitors upped the tempo at the break and ran out deserving winners.

Calum Biggins, Billy Devoy and Adam Crooks all hit the back of the net for Ashton as Devizes sunk to second bottom in the table.

Walters’ side are at home again on Saturday, with Keynsham Town the visitors to Nursteed Road.
