IT WAS second versus third at Beversbrook where Luxol St Andrews entertained a Heytesbury side who they had already beaten 5-0 in the reverse fixture back in October.

Once again the points went the way of Luxol who, thanks to a 2-0 win and remain in the race to become champions.

Heytesbury played the first half with 10 men, and were already two down at the interval, Luxol scoring twice in the 35th and 38th minute through Jed Osborne and Aaron Cockerill.

Sam Gooding had an excellent game in the middle, justifying his recent promotion and Wiltshire FA County appointment to referee next Saturday’s Wiltshire Junior Cup Final between Stockton & Codford and Freshford United.

After their injury-time win over two-time defending champions Freshford United last weekend, Warminster Town Reserves visited relegation battlers Castle Combe looking to build on that success.

Mark Breffit’s table-toppers avoided the classic after the Lord Major’s show scenario with a 1-0 victory that saw them continue their push for a first-ever top flight title.

Town’s Craig Sheppard scored the only goal of the game after 24 minutes.

Potterne may have beaten Semington Magpies 3-0 when the teams met earlier in the season, but ahead of their encounter at Little Marsh the Magpies were definitely the form side of the two teams with five wins from six games to Potterne’s three over the same period.

Magpies saw their fine run come to an end as a 2-1 win for Craig Campbell’s side saw them move into third place.

Jake Waters opened the scoring for the away side and that single goal was all that was between the two sides at the interval.

Magpies levelled the score after the break through Sean O’Brien and their second-half performance was looking like they were the most likely to take the points.

But a controversial twist to the game saw the three points go back to Potterne, Kyle Davies’ goal being flagged offside., only for match referee Steve Higgins to overrule and award the goal.

Westbury United Reserves may have lost their battle to stay in Division One, but Marc Lanfear’s side have performed much better in recent weeks and a visit from Hilperton United saw them chalk up a second win of the season.

A 5-2 success avenged their 4-2 loss from last November, but this was only half the story.

Hilperton started the game with only 10 men and by half time were two goals up thanks to goals from Ryan Underwood and Ben Smith.

They had played most of the first half with nine men after Ryan Mortimer had gone off injured after 15 minutes.

But it was all change in the second half with Westbury turning the result around against the nine men, with four goals in the second half from prolific marksman Mark Lanfear and a penalty from Simon Pickett, who scored from the spot against his old club.

Having already lost more games this season than they had in the previous two seasons, Chris Birleson’s defending champions Freshford United found themselves with a mountain to climb if they are to have any hopes of winning a third straight title.

The villagers suffered a further setback to their changes after they were beaten 1-0 at White Horse FC.

After a goalless first half, it was White Horse who took all three points courtesy of a Paul Beavers strike.

A free kick played into the box, was headed down by Kane Scott and Beavers hit it first time on the volley with his left foot to send the Birleson’s men home empty-handed.
