DARRAN Walters says that his Devizes Town troops are clubbing together as they look to drag themselves out of their winter malaise.

Devizes are without a win in six matches in all competitions and slipped to their 14th defeat of the season in the Toolstation League First Division on Saturday as they were soundly beaten by Roman Glass St George at Nursteed Road last weekend.

Oni Kehinde netted twice for the visitors, whilst Andrew Hamilton-Dunn was also on target for St George.

Walters’ men, who are 18th in the table, will have to contend with their longest away trip of the season on Saturday as they travel to 14th-placed Wellington but the Devizes manager says that he and his players will be soldiering on as they bid to turn around their fortunes.

“It’s a tough time and I always said that it would be like that at some point this season,” said Walters.

“It’s the time of year where you struggle with availability and it’s not easy at all – you’ve got two or three coming out of the squad every week and two or three coming back in.

“We’ve definitely been struggling for quality. We’ve been conceding too many goals and as soon as we let one in, it’s like we’ve got to go and score two or three to win the game.

“But myself and the assistant, Perks (Tom Perkins), always go into games believing that we can get something and we’ve just got to keep working at it.

“We haven’t had that bit of luck and that’s what happens when you’re a team that’s struggling – maybe our luck will change going in to the new year.

“We’ve got all local lads this year and because of that, we’re all sticking together.

“We’re past the halfway point of the season now but we’ve still got a lot of games and we’ll just keep going because that’s all we can do.”

Goalkeeper Matt Tilley misses this weekend’s trip to Somerset through work commitments but James Turner and Rory Collins could come back into the Devizes squad.
