DEVIZES Town boss Darran Walters can reflect on a satisfying week after his side registered back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season.

The Nursteed Road side ended a run of 11 matches without a win as Bishop Sutton were put to the sword 4-1 on Saturday before following up with a 2-0 success at local rivals Chippenham Park on Tuesday.

Ali Bradley, Ashley Lock, Jake Roberts and Dan Sloan were on target against Sutton, Lock and Jamie Walters doing the damage at Hardenhuish Park in midweek.

“Bishop Sutton aren’t a great side, but we still had to play well to beat them,” said Devizes boss Walters.

“Tuesday night was the performance of the season for us, we played really well against a decent Chippenham team.

“Tom Slater looked excellent for us again on Tuesday night and the midfield chipped in with a couple of goals.

“The two wins are massive for us, we went 10 games or so without a win and morale was getting affected.

“We stuck at it and now we’ve had a decent couple of wins.”

Dave Ferris was once again left to bemoan the toothless nature of his Park side as they conceded a goal either side of half time and could only create half-chances themselves as they failed to score for the sixth time this season.

It seems if Robbie Burton does not find the net then Hardenhuish Park side struggle and lowly Devizes were able to take advantage. The defeat left Ferris to cut a frustrated figure.

“I’m bitterly disappointed, we couldn’t get a breakthrough,” he said.

“In the first 20-25 minutes we looked lively and had a lot of the ball, but only troubled the keeper once.

“To be honest we flattered to deceive.

“We had a lot of possession and a lot of territory and we didn’t do enough with it.

“Did we deserve anything from the game? Probably not.

“For all our territory and possession we didn’t create enough clear-cut chances to say we were unlucky.

“The last two seasons we have had Mark Robinson up front and Mark is a true centre forward.

“He scored lots of goals forward. We haven’t found a replacement for Mark.

“When you consider we’ve got Robbie Burton, who’s playing very well and working very hard, he’s got eight goals and we haven’t got anyone else who has got more than two to go alongside him and that’s what our problem is.”
