CALNE Town manager Neurin Jones is looking up the First Division table after his side came from behind to beat Almondsbury 2-1.

Goals from Kris Beasley and Glenn Armstrong cancelled out Simon McElroy’s early strike to hand the hosts only their second win of the campaign.

The win lifted Calne away from the danger zone at the bottom and Jones was pleased to see the full potential of his team in the second half.

“We went 1-0 down in the first five minutes and we should have dealt with the long ball over the top better but we didn’t,” he said.

“The first half was not very special on our part. The passing was not up to scratch and we were just off the pace all over the park.

“We came in at half-time, had a chat, and it was a totally different game in the second half.

“Our goalkeeper didn’t have to do too much and then Kris Beasley hit an absolute worldie straight into the top corner.

“We haven’t created a lot in the second half but we were a lot better on the ball and we scored with about 10 minutes to go.

“Almondsbury are a very good team; they’ll be up there come the end of the season.

“It just shows that when we get going, we should do well.”

Calne started slowly and the visitors soon punished them when McElroy struck six minutes in.

The Lilywhites rode their luck in the first half but after the break, they were able to impose themselves on Almondsbury.

The pressure finally paid off when Beasley, some 25 yards out, struck the ball home into the top corner.

With 20 minutes remaining, Calne were awarded a free-kick, 18-yards out, for handball and Armstrong stepped up fire the hosts into the lead.

Jones’ side now travel to Romsey in the FA Vase before hosting Pewsey in the Wilts Senior Cup and the Lilywhites boss is hoping to build on Saturday’s win.

“I want to have a good cup run,” he added.

“It is always nice to get to the first round proper in the Vase and see where it goes.

“We could have done with another league game and try and build on what we have just done in the league, but it is just the way it fell and I am quite happy at the moment.”
