DEVIZES Town chief Darran Walters refused to be too downhearted despite his side failing to hold onto a 3-1 lead against Wincanton Town as their match finished 3-3 on Saturday.

Walters' men recovered from going a goal down to lead 2-1 at the break at Nursteed Road through strikes from Rory Collins and Tom Slater.

Slater then missed a penalty as the second half got under way, although Devizes did get a third goal when Brad Whitbread found the net.

However, Wincanton then mounted a spirited fightback and hauled themselves level before the final whistle.

Walters said: "It was a good game and overall a draw was a fair result. It was a really even game.

"Were 3-1 up but when they got a goal back with about 15 minutes to go it really got their tails up. They finished really strongly and we could have lost it by then end, so I wasn’t too disappointed.

"In hindsight the penalty probably would have won us the game but their keeper made a really good save and then another one from the rebound as well but that's they way it goes sometimes."

Devizes are at home again this weekend when they entertain Cheddar.

Walters added: We are still a young, inexperienced side at this level and we just have to keep going.

"Every game is a tough game. We know if we are below par we will find it tough to win games but we have just got to look to build on this."
