TABLE-TOPPERS Corsham Town may have slipped to defeat at Keynsham Town on Tuesday night but boss Jeff Roberts thought his players gave everything.

Corsham’s four-match unbeaten run was brought to an end as they were beaten 3-2 at Crown Fields, with Levi Cox and Lewis McCarron both levelling the scores before Keynsham grabbed the winning goal.

Youngster McCarron did go close to equalising a third time however and manager Roberts is keen to keep his troops’ spirits high.

“I said to the lads after the game that I couldn’t ask any more of them – they all gave 100 per cent,” said the Southbank chief.

“We beat Keynsham 5-1 not that long ago but we knew it would be a tricky game and we were really unlucky to not get something from it.

“We’ve got a small squad and we had quite a few players missing.

“Rhys Lock started at left-back, and he’s only 16, and Lewis McCarron was in front of him, and he’s only just turned 18, so that’s good on the youth side of things.

“Lewis cut in and scored and he did the same thing again at the end of the match and hit the post, so we weren’t far away from getting a point.”

On Saturday, Cox netted a brace as Corsham beat Wellington 4-2, with his second coming from the penalty spot after the visiting goalie was sent off, whilst Keiron Gleed and Dan Lardner were also on target.

Roberts also revealed that he has made four seven-day approaches for strikers, with two of those set to expire on Friday.

Frontman Cox is doubt for the weekend’s clash with Roman Glass St George whilst Matty Jenkins is suspended.

Gary Blackwood is injured, with fellow defender Sam Ockwell unavailable, whilst winger Ben Thomson has rejoined Melksham Town.
