PEWSEY Vale started the new season with a second straight defeat as they came off second best from their trip to Fleet Spurs.

Lewis Taylor’s side played well but in the end were beaten by a side that took their chances better.

The hosts broke the deadlock after40 minutes through Sam Knowles after an unfortunate defensive error.

Both sides hit the woodwork before the break and Vale should have equalised early in the second half but squandered three good chances.

Fleet were swift to capitalise and doubled their lead through a controversial finish, with the visiting defence convinced the scorer was offside.

Vale’s deficit then increased again as Fleet netted from a free-kick and although Ryan Banks did score from the penalty spot for the visitors, it was little more than a consolation.
