DEVIZES Town chief Darran Walters admits his team have a stiff learning curve ahead of them after they suffered a second home defeat in as many weekends.

After being crushed 3-0 by Chard on the opening day of the season, it was a similar story when Devizes were back at Nursteed Road on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by Oldland Abbotonians.

Walters’ men had picked up their first point of the campaign between those fixtures with a 1-1 midweek draw away at local rivals Calne Town.

However, there were few positives to take from the defeat to Oldland, for whom Connor Davies got both goals in the 10th and 80th minutes.

“I think last week 3-0 flattered Chard but 2-0 flattered us this week. It was not a good performance,” said a frustrated Walters.

“We were poor from start to finish. We just never got going, we couldn’t keep hold of the ball.

“I can’t put my finger on why that was but only a couple of them played as well as they can.

“We’ve had a really disappointing start to the season and I know the players are better than that.

“We have got a young side and it will be tough for us early doors but I can’t defend my players for how they played on Saturday.

“The games come thick and fast at this stage of the season so we just have to move on and try to be better next time.

“We have got to stick together, keep trying to learn and things will improve.”
