CORSHAM Town boss Trevor Rawlings is planning to use the last six weeks of the season to run the rule over some of his club’s up and coming talent.

The Southbank men have nine matches remaining in the Toolstation League First Division, including Friday evening’s trip to Calne Town, and despite insisting that a top-four finish remains the aim for his team, the Corsham manager already has one eye on next term.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries and we’ve been threadbare for a while now so I think I’m going to try and bring in a few youngsters and reserve players from now on – I’m thinking about next season,” said Rawlings.

“We’ve always tried to blood young players this season. Most of time, it’s been in ones and twos but now it’s going to be in threes, fours and fives.

“It’s not just injuries that we’ve struggled with a lot this season but some lads have young families, and that means family commitments sometimes, and sometimes lads have to work on weekends.

“You try to get players in but if someone’s getting picking up their money elsewhere, why would they come somewhere they’re not getting paid?

“You have to try though. I’m trying to get a couple of defensive players in from the Swindon area and if I can get those, I’d be happy with what I’ve got for the rest of the season.

“And we still want to try and finish fourth if we can.”

On Saturday, Corsham were held to a goalless home draw by Cheddar.

Rawlings said: “A draw was probably a fair result. There wasn’t any real quality to the game and I don’t think either side had a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

“We did have three good chances to get a goal but we blazed them all over, so we didn’t deserve to win.”

The Corsham chief confirmed that captain Ben Moore looks set to miss the rest of the season with his shoulder injury.
