DEVIZES Town joint-boss Justin Webster is hoping that his team can take full advantage of their next ‘six-pointer’ as they look to bring their five-match losing run in the Toolstation League First Division to a close.

The Nursteed Road outfit slipped to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Wells City last weekend and now haven’t added to their points tally in the league since December 13.

But this weekend, Devizes make the trip to second-from-bottom Roman Glass St George and Webster has his fingers crossed that his players can haul themselves back to winning ways.

“We’re on a really disappointing run but three of those five losses have been tight games,” said the Devizes joint-chief.

“We did lose 2-0 to Welton and 3-0 to Oldland but all the other games have been by the odd goal.

“We did lose in the (FA) Vase to Roman Glass. But it’s another six-pointer for us and it’ll be on the 4G pitch so we know that it’s definitely going to be on.

“They might be below us in the table but they’ve won two and drawn one in their last five games, so I think they’ll fancy their chances.

“We have to be up for this six-pointer though because we messed up the last one.”

Devizes fell behind on Saturday after Tim Downes headed Wells in front but former Highworth Town and Shrivenham striker Matt Bennett fired in his first goal for the club in his second start.

But a superb Matt Randall cross allowed Downes to head in his second of the game and the decisive match-winner with less than five minutes to go.

Webster and joint-manager Darran Walters hope to welcome back Kris Beasley, Ryan Trowbridge and Jamie McLaughlin for this weekend’s trip to Roman Glass.

The Devizes management have also snapped up midfielder Matt Bown from Shrivenham.

Webster added: “It’s a great signing for us.”
