CHIPPENHAM Park chief Dave Ferris thought that his side could have bagged themselves a hatful as they swept aside county rivals Westbury United last weekend.

Park travelled to Meadow Lane and racked up a comfortable 3-0 triumph as they dominated proceedings but the Hardenhuish Park outfit still allowed a multitude of chances to go begging.

But manager Ferris was still delighted with his team’s first victory of 2015 and a confident derby day display.

“In our last two games against Wells and Corsham, we’ve found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time, so we were on at the lads about making sure that we started properly,” said the Park chief.

“We managed to do that and at the end of the day, we’ve dominated 75 per cent of the game.

“It was 2-0 to us at half-time but it could easily have been 5-0. We’ve played well but still missed a lot of chances and it was all times when we’ve pretty much blazed the ball over the bar rather than showing a bit of composure.

“Aaron Ledgister, Dan Smith, and Mark Robinson also missed chances and Robinson hit a volley right at the end but it crashed against the bar.

“But 3-0 and three points; we can’t be disappointed with that. And fair play to Westbury too because they kept going, which is all a manager can ask.”

Early in the first period, Dan Smith’s delivery was headed in at the far post by Mike Clement, who netted his first goal for Park.

With 26 minutes on the clock, the visitors doubled their lead as Aaron Ledgister’s weak effort somehow snuck under the body of Westbury goalie Callum Hotine before finding its way into the net.

Park keeper Connor Johns pulled off a smart double-save to maintain a clean sheet before United’s Josh Maguire brought down substitute Toby Clarke in the area, allowing winger Ledgister to fire home his sixth goal in seven Chippenham apperances from the spot.

Ferris’ men aren’t in action again until they host Radstock Town next Tuesday.
