PEWSEY manager Nick Maggs says the visit of league leaders Team Solent on Saturday should hold no fear for his side after they inflcited a first league defeat of the season on Cowes Sports last weekend.

Maggs’ men returned to winning ways following back-to-back defeats with an inspired performance against a Cowes side who had dropped just four points from their first nine league games this term.

And the delighted Pewsey chief now wants his team to go one better by toppling table toppers Solent.

“We have the potential to beat the top sides in this league - it’s just a case of finding that bit of consistency,” said Maggs.

“We have a side full of young players, and because of that we will find we’ll get some inconsistent results.

“I keep trying to tell the players we want to make this a difficult place to come. We’re the most northerly team in the division and a lot of sides have to travel a long way to get here.

“We can see from Solent’s league position that they are a good side but we shouldn’t go into this weekend with any fear.”

Pewsey and Cowes could not be separated in the first half but the home side broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when Tom Ritchie found the net.

Maggs side were in control for the remainder of the contest and made the points safe 10 minutes from time as Kias Banner-Shea beat the Cowes keeper.

“I was chuffed to bits with the result on Saturday night. The players were pleased as punch too, and they deserve to be as they worked their socks off,” added Maggs.

“We rode our luck a bit at times but the score could easily have been twice what it actually ended up.”
