SIMON Gardner was keen to cast Calne Town’s performance against Welton Rovers to the back of his mind as quickly as possible.

The Lilywhites boss described his team’s display as ‘shocking’ as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat and had two men sent off.

Steve Allison was shown a straight red card midway through the second half for lunging tackle before keeper Jamie Bartlett was also sent off for handling the ball outside the area.

“It was shocking. It was a Saturday afternoon that I was happy to forget about as quickly as I could,” said Gardner.

“We look uninterested in the game. There were a few stern words at half-time and we got slightly better in the second half but it was only marginally.

“Steve Allison has come to the club recently and has a bit of a reputation of being a robust character. But I feel sorry for him because even though his tackle was robust, it was harsh to give a red card for it.

“They broke from their own penalty box and Jamie Bartlett came out to close the ball down and has handled it outside the area, so he had to go. We’re not used to having two players sent off.”

Calne, who have lost their last five matches in all competitions, host Keynsham Town next weekend.
