FOOTBALL: It's a Gas for William
9:30am Friday 18th July 2014 in Football
CHIPPENHAM youngster William Larvin will continue chasing his dream of becoming a professional footballer when he officially joins Bristol Rovers’ academy next season.
Eight-year-old William, who is pupil at Queen’s Crescent School, was scouted playing in a tournament for FC Chippenham last summer and subsequently spent the second half of last season playing for the Gas’ U9 side.
The youngster is now set to begin his academy development in earnest when the new season kicks off and dad Darren thinks his son has found the perfect club to grow as a player.
“He was spotted playing in a Corsham tournament and got asked to go and train with Bristol Rovers for six months.
“They liked what they saw and he ended up playing quite a few games for them last year,” he said.
“The coaches give us reports all the time and they say that he always gives 100 per cent in the games and doesn’t look out of place with the under 9s.
“Bristol Rovers seem like a family club. Like a lot of youngsters, he’d love to become a footballer and I’m more than happy for him to try and do that, as long as he gets an education.
“He’ll be playing against teams like Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Swindon next year and I’ve got to thank FC Chippenham too for helping him get where he has.”
