Potterne were just unable to get across the finishing line as they tied an exciting reduced-overs encounter with Swindon.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the villagers saw their County Ground hosts post 191-8 from their 44 overs.

Matthew Gumm was Swindon’s top scorer with an unbeaten 51, while there were contributions further up the order from Marc Williamson and Jonathan Sore, who posted 20 apiece and some late hitting from Asanka Vithanage, who added 43.

Rikki Jackson led the visiting bowling effort with 3-42 from 13 overs and there were two wickets from Ryan Higgins.

Replying, most of Potterne’s upper order made decent starts, but the one big innings that could have swung the game decisively in their favour eluded them.

Ollie Smith’s 37 was complimented by knocks of 34 from Higgins and 31 from Tom Alsop as Potterne closed in on the victory target.

Neil Clark added 20 and Shane Cloete 15.

Steve Silk (15 not out) and scoreless skipper Graham Gaiger were at the crease as overs ran out with the scores tied.

Michael Wilson was Swindon’s top performer with the ball, taking 3-49, while Will Nichols contributed 2-51.
