NEW Potterne skipper Ashur Morrison says he’s relishing the challenge that faces him after making a winter move from Corsham.

Morrison joins the Premier One side following eight years at Corsham and the all-rounder hopes a change of scenery can spur him and his new club to league title success.

Potterne start their top-flight campaign this weekend at home to Bristol and it’s a game Morrison has targeted as a win, though he admits no team can be underestimated this season.

He said: “The league is strong, anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“I expect the usual suspects in Bath and Keynsham to be up there

“Bristol this weekend will be a tough side, they have plenty of experience. But any team in this division will be a challenge for us.

“It’s going to be hard work, but we’ll prepare for every game in the right way.”

While many of Morrison’s teammates spent the winter months dodging the snow, the new skipper travelled down under to take on a new challenge in Melbourne.

Morrison was targeted by Plenty Valley CC and spent six months coaching the club’s women’s team in soaring temperatures.

He said: “Going to Australia was a lifetime goal of mine. I wouldn’t say the move was planned but the opportunity came up and nothing was stopping me.

“It was good to get away from my usual surroundings. I loved it, though I’ve been wrapped up since arriving back home.”

He was however, warmed by Potterne’s four pre-season net sessions, but he admits having more pre-season fixtures would’ve helped his side’s cause.

“We’ve had three or four net sessions now, it’s been disappointing to not have played more pre-season games,” he said.

“But we are ready for the season. Whoever I play for I want to win.

“I do feel like we’d be doing ourselves injustice as a team if we’re not challenging for the title.

“I’m definitely looking forward to my new challenge, and I’m optimistic about our chances of challenging for the title.

“I spent eight years at Corsham, for me I wanted a change of scenery. I needed a fresh start at a different club.

“Potterne is a great opportunity for me to attempt to win the league.”
