DEVIZES are riding the crest of a wave at the moment, according to captain Tom Grant after recording their third straight WEPL Wiltshire win at the weekend.

Great Bedwyn were the visitors to London Road and were put on the back foot as they were only able to amass a score of 189 all out (Richard Bosson 43, Chris Blundy 42, Max Andrews 31*), as Courtney Earl took three wickets for 55 as the pick of an impressive attack.

Despite the early loss of David Bromley, scoring just five before being caught leg before, Joe Wookey laid the foundations for the run chase as he hit an unbeaten 86 as Devizes reached their target in 38 overs.

“There is great confidence in the camp at the moment,” said Grant. “Last year, we really struggled because we got off to a bit of a bad start but we got off to quite a good start this year and won a few games to get everyone’s confidence up.

“We’re putting in better performances as a result.

“I think we bowled very well and restricted them before chasing it down pretty comfortably.

“Joe (Wookey) was faultless really. He was the rock of the innings and we could all go in and bat around him.

“We now head to Warminster full of confidence and go to try and win, having only lost narrowly to them earlier in the season.”

A Calne fightback with the ball wasn’t enough to prevent a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Marlborough.

The home side were dismissed for just 132 in 33 overs as Morlon Samuel (4-39) and Paul Smith (4-36) steadily removed batsmen, opener Tom Nott’s 24 being the batting highlight for Calne.

But led by Jim Sutton (3-27) and Kevron Cozier (2-53), Calne made a game of it, Marlborough opener Will Langton scoring 33 but the next biggest contributor being extras with 30, including 19 wides.

The visitors eventually got home in the 35th over.

Tristan Lundqvist’s 6-29 in eight overs proved Royal Wootton Bassett’s downfall as they fell 92 runs short against Warminster.

Warminster had earlier amassed 254-8 in their 50 overs, skipper Pete Hickerton scoring 89 and opener Mark Coxon Tenty 67 as Asanka Vithanage took 4-48 for the home side.

But Lungqvist ripped through the reply, Jared McDonald’s 60 the shining light in a losing Bassett cause.

Marshfield succumbed to a 44-run loss at Swindon, for whom skipper Alex Kill scored 72 of 205 all out, Jeremy Bond, Suffan Hussain and Alastair Christie taking two wickets each.

Bond scored 66 in 75 balls in the reply, but Cameron Baden (4-32) and Tom Codling (3-16) ensured they finished well short.
