BIDDESTONE set a new club record at the weekend as they defeated Swindon to make it eight wins in a row.

The 90-run success at the County Ground has lifted the Cuttle Lane side to third in the table.

Team manager Kevin Mitchell was delighted to see the players set a new first team record having last lost, to this Saturday’s visitors Chippenham, at the start of July.

“Four or five years ago the first team went on a seven-match unbeaten run, so it is great that they have beaten that,” Mitchell said.

“Our overseas player Dominic Hendricks has been scoring lots of runs. He had a tough start but in the last few weeks he has been showing his class.

“Naeem Khan has taken 40 wickets this season and his four at the weekend put him top of the wicket-takers for the division.

“He has been here for more than 10 years and he has always been up there with the wickets.

“I think that the run is down to team confidence. We still have the same players we did at the start of year and once you get a couple of wins together you can build momentum.”

After winning the toss on Saturday, Biddestone were bowled out in the final over for 244.

After the early loss of James Bartlett, Chris Baker and Hendricks put on a 110-run stand for the second wicket before the latter fell for 57.

Baker and Dwain Perry (46) then shared a 66-run partnership before the opening batsmen was run out 75 to leave Biddestone 186-3.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals, with number nine batsman Harry Beazer (16*) the only other visiting player to make double figures.

However, after a steady start from Swindon to their reply, Khan (4-33), Baker (3-27) and Subash Theiventhirarajah (3-26) dismissed the hosts for 154 in 32 overs.

Elsewhere in the division, Chippenham’s hopes of claiming the title ended following a one-wicket loss to leaders Rockhampton.

After batting first, the Hardenhuish Park side were restricted to 175-8 from their 50 overs, with Billy Cookson top-scoring with 50.

Wet weather meant that Rockhampton were set a revised target as they reached 141-9 in the 40th over, despite the best efforts of Darryl Losper (3-27).

Burbage and Easton Royal claimed a five-wicket success over Warminster.

Luke Woodcock (5-12) and Rory Cullinan (4-20) ripped through their hosts in 22.1 overs, as Warminster were skittled out for 55.

However, instead of cruising to victory, Burbage lost five wickets by the time they had reached their target.
