SEAN Adams smashed an unbeaten century to help Calne climb out of the bottom two in an emphatic 159-run win at home to Purton.

Adams (109*) shared a punishing second-wicket stand of 191 with James Watson (94) to set up a mammoth score for Calne at Beversbrook as they posted 285-3.

The hosts then got into Purton quickly as the reply got under way, with Joseph Clare taking a wicket before a run had been scored, setting up fine figures of 6-57.

Samuel Pinchin and Deepak Ramani were the only Purton batsmen to score more than 20 as Clare had them in disarray before they eventually slumped to 126 all out.

The victory has moved Calne up to fourth-from-bottom in the table, although it could not be tighter as three clubs are separated by a single point.

Malmesbury have fallen into the bottom two after a chastising 111-run defeat at home to Devizes.

A brilliant spell of bowling from Malmesbury’s Josh Langley (5-29) restricted the visitors to a modest total of 186. Tom Pike’s 64 provided the backbone of that innings.

However, Langley was then outshone with the ball as Tim Saye took 6-20 for Devizes to obliterate the reply as the home side capitulated for just 75.

Great Bedwyn are also in the mire at the wrong end of the table and they were not helped by a 92-run loss at home to Marshfield.

James Williams hit 69 and Tom Bright an unbeaten 58 as the visitors racked up 279-8.

Josh Quinn (59) and James Hart tried to lead a response for Great Bedwyn, but William Pascall (4-35) dismissed the reply for 187.

Marlborough’s outside chances of winning the title are all but over after they lost by nine-wickets away at leaders Trowbridge.

Despite winning the toss and electing to bat first, the visitors could only post a meagre 108 at the County Ground, and an unbeaten knock of 58 from Trowbridge skipper Mike Reynolds saw that chased down in the 32nd over for the loss of a single wicket.
