GOATACRE suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Old Bristolians Westbury despite a show-stopping bowling display from Jon Haines in the Premier Two 2nd XI division.

The Bristolians batted first after winning the toss and despite Steve Jacobs’ 65, they were put under constant pressure by Haines, who accounted for a whopping seven wickets at a cost of just 17 runs.

The visitors were dismissed for 193 in little more than 31 overs but Potterne struggled to follow up with the bat and fell 20 runs short of their target, losing their 10th wicket early in the 43rd over.

Elsewhere, Potterne have slipped down to eighth in Premier Two after their heavy loss at Winterbourne.

The villagers lost the toss and were put in to bat first, only reaching 124 before being skittle for 124 in the 40th over.

Keith Ford (59) and Mark Frost (46) then helped Winterbourne then cruise to 129-2.

Ian Dixon’s century helped Corsham claim a three-wicket victory over Taunton Deane in Premier One Visitors Deane batted first after winning the toss and posted 245-9, with John Parker taking 3-34.

Dixon then stepped up and led the run chase with a knock of 120, which helped guide Corsham to 249-7 midway through the 44th over.

Biddestone bested Hatherley & Reddings by just three runs in the Glos/Wilts Division, Rhys Merriman hitting 95 as the villagers posted 196-9.

The visitors came close to chasing down their target but Rob Horn (3-34) stemmed the tide as they could only reach 193-9 at the close of their innings.

In the Wiltshire Division, Burbage & Easton Royal thrashed Great Bedwyn by 108 runs whilst Malmesbury suffered a four-wicket loss to Westbury.

Marshfield were bested by Trowbridge in a 67-run defeat whilst Calne were hammered by 193 runs against Lechlade.
