CORSHAM spinner Joe King was on-form as he took five wickets against Downend but it was not enough to prevent Robin D’Souza’s men tasting defeat in their final away game of the season.

Corsham won the toss in Bristol and put their hosts in to bat first, King’s Haul coming in just ten overs.

But Downend’s Ian Cockbain hit 88 from 59 balls to put his side in control, with opener Ben Ringrose also weighing in with 60.

Corsham skipper D’Souza also claimed three wickets as the home side were skittled for 255 in the final over.

The visitors’ Sam Collier (41) did his best to get his side moving but Corsham were agonisingly short of the required run rate.

Ashur Morrison hit 38 whilst D’Souza and Toby Davies added 24 and 22 respectively.

But Downend’s Cockbain piled on the pressure as he took four wickets, whilst Andrew McEwan took three.

Tawanda Mupariwa also claimed two as Corsham were all out for 223 midway through the 47th over.

D’Souza’s men host second-placed Frocester at Station Road this weekend.
