RICHARD Fey is hoping he can be Nathan Rudge’s best man for the job for a second time after agreeing to join Chippenham Town as the Bluebirds new assistant manager.

The 34-year-old former Frome Town keeper has linked up with his close friend Rudge after stepping down as manager of Toolstation League Premier Division runners-up Bitton last week.

Fey says that he was impressed after recently meeting Chippenham’s current squad and is looking forward to the challenge of helping run a Southern League side.

“I’ve known Rudgey since we were kids and I was the best man at his wedding too,” said Fey.

“Nath was asking my advice about managing when everything was first going on and when he asked me to come in as his assistant I thought it would be a great idea. He wants to play next season so hopefully having me on the sidelines will help.

“We’ve just finished meeting all the players and their attitude is fantastic. Adie (Mings) has left us with a great squad and his experience is a massive help for us.”

Player-boss Rudge added: “I probably had a list of 12 or 15 people that I could have brought in but he was my number one target and it’s one of the most important signings I’ll make.

“He did a great job at Bitton and when they decided not to apply for promotion, he always had the ambition to go to a higher level of football.

“Between myself, Rich and Adie, I don’t think there’s anything we won’t be able to cover and it’s a great thing for the future of the club.”
