FULL TIME: CAMBRIDGE CITY 1, CHIPPENHAM TOWN 0

FULL TIME: Chippenham taste defeat for the first time this season. They began well for half an hour but set out to play on the counter attack and found it hard to switch gears after going behind. They had chances to equalise, and even win the game, but Davies in particular was wasteful In front of goal. They will hope for better when they visit Banbury in the FA Cup next Saturday. See this week‘s G&H for full reaction to this game and all the latest Bluebirds news.

93 Mins: Cambridge sub, Steve Gentle off for Matt Haniver. Time-wasting tactics.

90 Mins: Oh how are they not level! Benison drifts wide and plays a great in swinging ball into the area, it deflects off a defender, onto the head of Davies but his effort is weak and easily saved. If only that had been Highmore or Powell in that situation, they would be level now.

87 Mins: Superb defending by Tindle to block a chance when he was the last line of defence. He has been outstanding today at the back, along with Snoddy.

86 Mins: Fuller goes on for Radcliffe for Cambridge. He has been impressive on the left.

85 Mins: Clough shoots wide from the edge of the box.

84 Mins: Great chance for Chippenham, the best of the second half. Allison breaks forward and plays in Benison who squares it to Davies first time but Barrett saves brilliantly.

81 Mins: Benison on for Powell. No sign of Bassett warming up. Fuller has a long shot which curls wide and over for Cambridge.

80 Mins: Davies has made a difference since he came on but there is only one person in the box to aim at now, as the substitute comes wide into Allison‘s place so of ten. Benison about to come on.

77 Mins: Clough pings a ball to Allison, who fires a cross to the back post where Gullick hit’s a good header forcing a fine save. That‘s more like it.

75 Mins: Two good chances for Chippenham but Nightingale, the defensive midfielder, is brave and blocks both efforts from Clough and then Tindle.

72 Mins: Snoddy makes two good saves in two minutes to keep Chippenham in the game. That should have been game over really but the keeper stands tall. Subs warming up for Chippenham but time is running out.

71 Mins: Fantastic play from Tindle sees him clear up as last man and play a perfect ball forward with the outside of his right into the path of Davies. The sub gets into the box but shoots when he should have passed. Great chance but a bit of a tame effort in the end.

70 Mins: Cambridge (the player) sends a ball into the back post which Snoddy fumbles under no pressure and concedes a corner, which luckily for them is wasted.

65 Mins: Davies comes on for Highmore. That‘s a strange move from the Bluebirds boss unless there is an injury I have missed. Davies has been pushed up front.

63 Mins: Chippenham are lacking imagination in the second half. Lye is aiming long balls forward but they are not finding either striker. Sam Allison is in no-mans-land on the right wing as he has clearly been asked to cover Williams against the dangerous Ashley Fuller but as a consequence they lack any attacking threat on the right. Davies and Bassett are both on the bench.

59 Mins: Great goal by Frendo puts Chippenham ahead. Gullick lost the ball and the striker was found on the edge of the box. He dipped his shoulder to get a yard of space from Williams and hit a left-footed shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

GOAL, 59 MINS, JOHN FRENDO, CAMBRIDGE CITY

55 Mins: Chippenham are very quiet in terms of possession and vocally this half. There is very little shouting about markers of anyone taking command of situations. Tindle has started very well but they are under pressure.

51 Mins: How many chances do Cambridge want? Frendo goes so close from close range but again the ball slides agonisingly wide of the post.

46 Mins: Second half is underway and there are no Chippenham changes.

HALF TIME: Cambridge have ended the half in strong fashion but Chippenham were the better side for 35 minutes. Either side could have a good claim to be in front but the Bluebirds would be ahead on points were it a boxing match. A problem for Chippenham is their right-hand-side. Allison is not in the game at the moment and Williams also looks shaky behind him. Maybe Bassett or Davies will get a call in the second half.

45 Mins: Great save from Snoddy keeps Chippenham in it. Another cross is not dealt with and Gentle beats Tindle to the ball but the keeper smothers. A let-off.

42 Mins: A scramble in the visitors‘ box sees the ball fall to Nightingale but his shot is blasted wide in anger. The ball appeared to be kicked out of Snoddy‘s hands so I‘m not sure if it would have been given had it gone in.

40 Mins: Set pieces are a constant threat from Cambridge. Every throw is sent long into the box like a corner and every corner is delivered onto the spot desired. In open play Chippenham are better but they need to defend better.

37 Mins: Cambridge should be ahead. Suddenly there is a lot of room in the Chippenham defence and Frendo plays in Theobald but he drags his turn and shot wide. Lucky escape.

36 Mins: Adams brings down Frendo to win a free kick. Short pass is made to Frendo and Williams tugs his shirt in the area but gets away with it as the forward stays strong and plays on.

31 Mins: Williams gets a talking to for a foul and is lucky not to be booked. Chippenham are on top but Cambridge look dangerous when they do have a chance.

26 Mins: Lamb plays a great ball from left back over the top of the defence and into Highmore‘s path but the forward stretches his leg and hit’s the bar with his shot. Fantastic movement again from forward. It has been all Chippenham for the last ten minutes.

23 Mins: Highmore charges down a clearance from Stewart and the right back then plays a terrible back pass into the strikers path but Barrett saves the day again. Highmore is looking lively as usual.

20 Mins: Clough wins the ball, runs through the midfield and plays in Highmore but he unusually scuffs his shot and Barrett saves at his near post.

16 Mins: Tindle is penalised for pulling down Midgley. Cambridge steal at least five yard with the free kick, which is now 22 yards out but Frendo hit’s the wall. Chippenham are not happy that a corner was given, incorrectly in my view, and Scott Lye is berating the assistant for his two lapses.

13 Mins: Good play from Clough sets up a chance for Powell, who wins a corner which comes to nothing. Clough is bossing the midfield so far with his physicality.

9 Mins: Highmore flicks the ball past Chaffey and is pulled down! The defender is booked but some would say he was the last man. Stewart was covering so probably the right decision.

5 Mins: Cambridge right back Stewart plays a shocking pass, straight into the path of Lye but the Welshman is unable to find the unmarked Highmore with his cross. That needed a calmer head and was a good opportunity.

4 Mins: First effort from Chippenham as Charlie Clough mis-cues from the edge of the box. Ben Highmore did well in the build up.

1 Mins: And we‘re off! For what it‘s worth, I have been told this Cambridge City team is less than potent up front but John Frendo is a “Southern League Emile Heskey.”

14:45 Mins: Team news is in. Join us in 15 minutes for kick-off. Leave your messages of support, and any questions about the game, in the comments section below and I will endeavour to answer them.

TEAM NEWS: There are two changes from the side who defeated Clevedon 2-0 on Monday. Adie Mings again drops the exciting Jon Davies to the bench for an away fixture, like against Leamington last Saturday, in favour of the experience of Sam Allison. Lewis Powell, who has netted six goals in six games, returns up front alongside Ben Highmore, with Shaun Benison amongst the substitutes. Kyle Bassett has also shaken off a bout of tonsillitis to return to the bench in place of young James Martin.

Chippenham Town: Snoddy, Adams, Lamb, Williams, Tindle, Allison, Lye, Clough, Powell. Highmore, Gullick.
Subs: Davies, Benison, Casey, Bassett, Klukowski.

Cambridge City: Barrett, Stewart, Krause, Theobald, Chaffey, Nightingale, Frendo, Cambridge, Gentle, Midgley, Fuller.
Subs: Bexfield, Radcliffe, Haniver, Smith, Pepper.
