WILTSHIRE men’s national fours and triples championship had reached the sharp end, with the quarter-finals in both due to be staged at Chippenham Town and Holt.

However, the heavy rain on Tuesday washed out the last eight in the fours at Chippenham.

Controller Gerald Webb now has the headache of trying to re-arrange them in an already congested fixture list, with other competitions already planned as well as national inter-county championship games.

At the time of going to press, no date had been agreed for the re-staging.

The matches should have seen two teams from Royal Wootton Bassett, skipped by Mel Biggs and Stephen Snell, clash.

In the other games, Stuart Oliver (Holt) was due to meet Nick Revell (Amesbury), Colin Baker (Purton) was drawn against Highworth’s Rob Etherington and a senior Westlecot four, skipped by Mike Hall, was due to face Ben Gadd (Holt).

The quarter-finals in the triples are scheduled to be held at Holt on Friday. The four winners will progress to the semis, due to be staged at Devizes on June 19.

  • THE COUNTY senior men’s side will be hoping to emulate the U25 side and reach the regional finals in the inter-county double rinks competition.

Wiltshire U25s came from 27-20 down to beat Warwickshire 39-31 at Royal Wootton Bassett in their first round match and book a place in the regional finals at Bristol BC on June 19.

The senior side will look to reach the finals at Clevedon on June 26 when they face Somerset at Royal Wootton Bassett in the first round on June 12.
