DEVIZES judoka Tom Reed must wait until Rio in four years' time to achieve his Olympic dream after British rival Euan Burton was confirmed as the country's representative in the men's -81kgs category for London 2012 today.

As expected, double world bronze medallist Burton, who is based in Edinburgh, got the nod over the Wiltshire man, joining Britain's 14-strong team for the Games.

Burton made British history in 2009 by winning the Kano Cup - a first for a British competitor - overcoming South Korean Kim Jae-Bum, who won silver at the Beijing Olympics and is seeded second for London – by ippon in the final.

In an exclusive interview with the Gazette & Herald earlier this summer, Reed admitted his foucs was more on the Rio Games in 2016, saying: "Realistically, I’m number two at the moment.

"I’m looking to carry on another four years. I’ve learned a lot from this Olympic cycle.''

Team GB will fulfil the maximum allocation by selecting an athlete for each of the seven weight categories in both the men’s and women’s events.

The Great Britain team have won seven silver medals and nine bronze medals since judo was introduced at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, but were unable to win a medal in either of the past two Games in Athens and Beijing.
