CHIPPENHAM delivered an improved performance from the previous week’s loss to Newbury, but were unable to fashion a victory in National Three South West.

The lead changed hands several times but the visitors struck first with a penalty after 10 minutes.

Chippenham hit back through a well-taken try by Christian Novik on his return from injury, Chris Simmonds slotting the conversion.

Chippenham, driven on by skipper Bobby Lyons, continued to press the All Whites line and Adrian Price crossed for his 13th try of the season, Simmonds again adding the extra two points.

However, the hosts then gifted Abbot a converted try and snother score just before the break gave the away side a 15-14 lead.

Chippenham, went further behind six minutes into the second half as Abbot crossed for their third try.

The home side hit back though with an intercepted try by youngster Matt Rhodes, Simmonds again converting.

The final play of the game saw Chippenham pressing the Abbot line, which managed to stay firm.
