IT'S been a long time coming, but after going close since the start of 2012, Polenez Westbury have at last picked up their first win of the season.

Polenez, who went into their game with The Stiffs having lost all their previous 19 league and cup matches, came from 2-0 down to chalk up a 3-2 win which capped a remarkable turnaround in form as the Stiffs had beaten them 9-1 two months ago.

In what was The Stiffs' final league outing of the campaign it looks as if it would be business as usual after Dave Carroll put them one up and Simeon Player doubled their lead which gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.

However this new-look Polenez side clawed their way back into the game and reduced the arrears when Leo Whitehead scored from the penalty spot early in the second half.

Polenez draw level thanks to a spectacular 25 yard thunderbolt from Pitor Bigaj and with the bit between their teeth they scored their all-important third goal through Whitehead five minutes from time.

Thanks to some brave defending they were able to hold out for that illusive first win on the season.

United FC 0 Bratton Reserves 2

BRATTON Reserves, who had not won in their last nine league matches, ended that unwanted run with a 2-0 victory at United FC who were unable to continue their good run of late.

Liam Griffiths opened the scoring for Bratton with a well-taken first and another great strike from Darren Hudd, who fired home from an acute angle earned Bratton their win, both goals coming in the first half.

Westbury Town 3 Bradford United Reserves 1

WESTBURY Town are the side looking most likely to finish as runners up to champions The Lamb.

After their 3-1 win over Bradford United Reserves, Ian Gray’s side are level on points with Melksham Town A in the battle for second place.

But with a game in hand and a better goal difference they will only have themselves to blame if they lose out from here.

An action-packed first half saw all four goals scored and it was Mike Chappell whose heavily deflected effort put them ahead.

Adrian Lane’s penalty got Bradford back on level terms before goals from Ian Gray and Josh Dowd sealed Westbury their 11th win of the season.

Westbury United A 1 Melksham Town A 2

MELKSHAM Town A’s 2-1 success at Westbury United A keeps them in the hunt for second spot while ending the hopes of Westbury’s outside chance of nicking the second automatic promotion spot.

After a goalless first half Jordon Matthews headed Westbury ahead but his effort was cancelled out by Sean Meer, whose 10th goal of the season squared things up for Melksham.

A bizarre own goal from Tom Lucas handed Melksham their victory. Lucas cleared a Dan Moore cross from off the line but in doing so he turned it onto the post only for the ball to ricochet back onto him and over the line.

A cruel way for Westbury who finished the game with 10 men due to injury to lose out in what was an entertaining contest.
