I DIDN’T think that we deserved to win the game on Tuesday night. You could call it a bad day at the office but I think that we just weren’t good enough on the day.

We had two good chances in the first half with Luke Gullick’s shot and hitting the bar but goals change games and when you make two bad defensive mistakes and concede two goals, you give yourself a mountain to climb.

Too many players had off-days and also lost individual battles. Even though Bashley aren’t in a great league position, they looked like a good side and deserved to win.

We still had a quite a few people carrying knocks and a few played in the game because we had to put a side out to try and get a result.

Luke Gullick has a knee problem and James Guthrie had been told to rest for a month. He’s still so keen to play and he’s been our most consistent performer so far this season but I don’t want to risk doing him any long-term damage.

Evo (Richard Evans) came in but he’s not quite fully fit yet.

I’ve known about him for a while and I felt it was important to get another left-footed player in because they’re hard to come across. He can play on the left wing, at left back and across the whole midfield too.

We’ve still got a striker on the radar at the moment so we’ll see what happens in the next few games because we may have to move one or two out to bring one in.

We’re going to Hemel Hempstead this weekend and they’ve got Matty McEntergart in charge after losing Tommy Widdrington.

What a way to get off to a good start beating one of your former clubs would be for Macca, so we’re still expecting a very tough game.

Hemel’s always been a tough ground to go to for us and we’re not expecting to just be able to turn up and get a result.

Of course, we’re hoping that the game goes ahead because of the weather too.
