I CAN say whatever I like and so can Kempy (Gary Kemp) but the players know that it’s up to them to ask questions of themselves after the loss to Bedford last weekend.

We were poor in the first half against Oxford City and poor again in the second half on Saturday and it’s up to the lads to ask why they’ve come up short after going on a fantastic run in previous weeks.

It’s a massive game this weekend when we play Cambridge. They’re a settled side with a very good manager and they’re always there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

They were in a similar position to us a few weeks ago but they’ve won six on the bounce now and shot up the table.

It’s tight at the top but I still think that one of the sides who are ninth or 10th could go on a run and find themselves up in the mix at the end of the season - Hednesford were down there last season but went on a huge unbeaten run and eventually went up, so it’s always feasible.

It’s just so frustrating that we couldn’t pick up two or maybe even four points from the last two games to get ourselves further into the mix.

We’re back at home though so hopefully we can get back to taking the game to teams, like we did against Totton and against Frome in the second half of that game.

We’re still quite stretched in terms of numbers because we don’t have the biggest squad and the finances aren’t there to go and bring people in willy nilly.

After Simon Dunn was recalled by Basingstoke, he came off the bench for them against Weston-super-Mare and against Bath City, so we’ve still got to wait and see if he’ll be available for us this weekend.

Scott Lye’s starting some light jogging this week and hopefully, after we’ve got some proper work into him next week, he might be back in time for the Leamington game (January 28). Alan Griffin was also suspended last weekend and should be back.

We’re still actively seeking another striker but we want it to be someone who can hit the ground running and make an impact on the team.

It’s still watch this space on when we’ll lose Lewis (Powell) but it’s good to have Dave Gilroy back ready to step in.
