IT’S all well and good being in pre-season but you always want to get back into the thick of it and that’s where we are now the season’s started.

On Saturday, the pitch was horrendous and you couldn’t play any football on it at all.

We played well in the first-half but after that we just expended a lot of energy and just couldn’t get it down - the linesman’s then given Stourbridge two dodgy decisions and they’ve won from there.

But sometimes decisions don’t go your way and you’ve just got to draw a line under it.

I still thought we did enough to get a draw from the game but things don’t always work out and you’ve just got to move on from it.

On Tuesday, I thought that every man was fantastic and we did tire a bit at the end but that’s because the lads are still trying to find their fitness.

That fitness won’t be there for a little while but the result is the most important thing at the start of the season.

We created some decent chances and on another night, we might have put one or two of those away to make it look more comfortable but you still end up with the three points.

We’ve got Chesham this weekend and they were a very good side last year. They’re very well organised.

They’ve brought in some very good players and they’ve got aspirations of trying to win the league this year - their manager has been saying about just missing out on the play-offs last year and they want to try and kick on further this time.

We know they’re going to ask questions of us again and we’re going to have to be on our mettle again.

I’m struggling with a few people missing and Sammy (Allison) is one that’s going to be unavailable for a while - he will be able to help out later in the season, though.
