THERE was more World Championship disappointment for former Wootton Bassett School pupil Jazz Carlin in Shanghai this morning.

Carlin, 20, failed to reach the final of the women's 800m in China as she finished 16th oversall in this morning's heats.

It follows the Wiltshire youngster's below-par showing in the 400m freestytle earlier this week when she also failed to get beyond the heats stage.

Carlin, who held the fifth fastest 800m time this year going into the championships, blamed glandular fever in April for ruining her preparations.

She clocked 8:34.33 as teammate and double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington qualified fastest for tomorrow's final in 8:22.27.

Olympic champion Adlington has already won 400m Freestyle bronze in Shanghai and beat Denmark's defending champion Lotte Friis in her heat.
