MALMESBURY Victoria finally picked up their second league win of the season on Saturday with a hard-fought victory over local rivals Cricklade Town.
Simon Griffths put the Vics a goal up before James McCarthy also got himself on the scoresheet.
Cricklade did have chances to level the scores and they twice had the opportunity to hit back from the penalty spot but Malmesbury keeper Barney Shaw was on hand to save the first of Cricklade’s penalties, as the hosts went on to win 2-1.
“It was a great performance and we had a few of the boys back who have been letting us down,” said assistant manager Ian Restell, who took charge in the absence of Mike Hartley.
“It was pleasing and I don’t think Cricklade came to us with the right attitude.”
Manager Hartley added: “It’s about time because we’ve got some good players here – hopefully we can push on.”
The Vics next game is at Purton on February 26.
