NORTH Wilts continued their winning ways in the Top Club national mixed competition.

They produced a stunning home performance in their third-round tie to whitewash arch-rivals and near-neighbours Clarrie Dunbar (Frome) 16-0.

Chippenham-based North Wilts dominated proceedings to take the honours in all five matches and send their opponents home empty handed.

Wayne Snook and Janet Hardie gave North Wilts the perfect start with both winning their respective 21 ends singles matches comfortably to notch two points each.

And at 10 ends home advantage was being used to the full as North Wilts led the triples 24-2, the fours 13-6 and pairs 8-7.

But then the fours and pairs teams also began to pull away and with Clarrie Dunbar feeling there was no way back for them they conceded the match.

North Wilts took four points from each of the pairs, triples and fours matches to finish with a maximum total of 16 points.

Having only edged home 87-76 on shots difference after drawing eight points all in round one against Bristol, North Wilts have notched up impressive 14-2 and 16-0 victories over Purnell (Paulton) and Clarrie Dunbar.

They will be looking to keep the fine run going this coming Sunday, February 20, (2pm), when they travel to Buckinghamshire to face Bletchley (Milton Keynes) in the fourth round (last 16).

Bletchley eliminated Oxford & District in the third round 10-6, who had in the previous round beaten Westlecot 10-6.

The prize at stake for the winner of the last 16 match between North Wilts and Bletchley is a place in the last eight and final stages of the TLH Top Club competition at Torquay over the weekend of March 25-27.
