PEWSEY Vale boss Adi Holcombe said his side have already surpassed his expectations for the season after they picked up their 12th win of the season on Saturday.

Pewsey claimed a comfortable triumph over Fleet Spurs, keeping the pressure on the top sides and continuing an impressive first season in the Wessex League.

Jon Guthrie netted twice for Holcombe’s side, with Ricky Franklin and Michael Martin also on target.

“To be honest, I was targetting a point from every game and we’re past that already,” said the Pewsey manager.

“It’s an old cliche but we’re really just taking every game as it comes now.

“We’re really happy at the moment and we won’t be mentioning the ‘p-word’ (promotion) at all yet.”

Pewsey currently occupy fourth place in Division One and Holcombe’s side travel to second-placed AFC Portchester this weekend.

“It’s a big game and I’d be happy with anything from there ,” he said.

“We’ve got games in hand on them and we play United Services Portsmouth (who are third) soon too.

“Every Tuesday we do about 45 minutes of fitness with the lads in training – they may not always like it but I say ‘just look at the results’ because we’ve picked up points at the end of games because of our fitness.”
