MEL Gingell is looking to patch-up his leaky defence after Corsham Town conceded twice in extra time as they were knocked out of the Les Phillips Cup by Ilfracombe on Saturday.

Dan King was on target for the home side as the scores were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes before Aaron Ledgister gave Gingell’s men the lead early in extra-time.

However, two late Ilfracombe goals turned the tie on its head, much to the disappointment of the Corsham boss.

“Scoring two goals should have been enough to win the game,” said Gingell.

“We were really poor in defence and I need to look at things - I’ve got a few ideas already.

“I did move Craig (Gingell) into midfield so maybe that was a mistake but since the ground’s got wet, we don’t look up to the pace at the back.

“It’s a really disappointing result because I wanted to do well in that competition.”

Gingell has snapped up former Team Bath and Westbury United man Tom Piotrowski but the striker was ineligible for Saturday’s cup clash.

Corsham aren’t in action again until Wednesday January 26, when they host Sherbourne United.

“I think that the teams that don’t have a game this weekend are Bitton and Willand Rovers and they’re both in the (FA) Vase so we’re the odd ones out,” said Gingell.

“Things are just so stop/start - it’s a distraction.”
