FORMER Chippenham Town player Barry Lane is the newest addition to the Bluebirds’ board of directors.
The 66 year-old, who lives in the town and runs a courier business, was persuaded to make the step up from associate director by chairman John Applegate.
“I was born in Corsham and was a player for Chippenham in the 1960s – Freddie Thompson was player-manager in those days,” said Lane.
“I know the chairman John Applegate – he’s a good friend of mine.
“He asked me if I was interested in playing a bigger part in the club and I said ‘why not?’”
“It meant putting a little bit of money forward but I run my own business and it’s been my club since I was coming up and playing the game locally.
“After playing football, I moved away and starting playing golf but I’ve come back to watch the football recently and I want to take an active interest in the club.”
