CHIPPENHAM Town winger Sam Allison might be trying harder than any of his other Bluebirds teammates to find the net against Tiverton Town this weekend – after vowing not to shave his moustache until he scores a goal.

Allison, who is the club’s longest-serving player, decided to start growing his new facial hair on January 3 but admits that he’s starting to worry about being left with an unruly upper-lip accessory.

“It started off as a bit of a practical joke and then it led on to talking to some of the boys and them thinking that it's a good idea,” said the Chippenham midfielder.

“It gets to a certain point where you think ‘oh no, am I actually going to score’ and it's not fun anymore!

“It’s something different and a bit of banter – I went a little bit off Joey Barton doing the same thing but I didn’t think it was going to take this long.

“It’s the sort of thing that you can't give up and you've just got to do it.

“If it’s touching the ground, then it's touching the ground.”

Allison has three goals to his name so far this season, his last strike coming against Slough Town in an FA Trophy first qualifying round replay in October last year and has earned an inevitable ribbing from his teammates.

“There’s been a couple like Eddie Murphy and Ja Rule – when one of his songs came on last Saturday, people said that it was being played for me!” said Allison.

“(When I score) it’ll come off straight away. I’ll be bringing a razor with me to every game.”

Chippenham moved back into fourth place in the Zamaretto League Premier Division with a 3-1 victory over Bedford Town on Tuesday, Ashley Edenborough scoring twice.
