KINGTON Langley claimed the Wiltshire Short Mat Bowls Mixed Fours title at Melksham’s Christie Miller Centre There were 20 entries into the competition, a number of fancied fours falling by the wayside after the group stages.

The group winners went forward to play for the championship whilst the next best placed played for the County Plate.

The quarter finals featured Trowbridge, Westbury Blue Circle, Heywood, Kington Langley, Little Somerford and Upavon.

Chris Willis’s four (Blue Circle) beating an Upavon four, skipped by Derek Ford in the semi finals.

The other semi saw Terry Shore’s team (Trowbridge) narrowly lose to Kington Langley (skipped by Mike Wilson)..

The four of Dave and Anthea Williams with Sandi and Mike Wilson (Kington Langley) overcame the Blue Circle four of Maggie Marden, Tony Sutton, Ann Hart and Chris Willis 8-2.

The plate event saw Seend, Crudwell, Market Lavington and Dinton in the semi finals.

The Seend four skipped by Colin Waldeck beat Crudwell (skipped by Geoff Lane) and the Dinton team (skipped by John Gorringe) narrowly defeated Chris Lock’s Market Lavington four, but lost out 7-3 to Dinton.

Due to illness two of the original Dinton four (Geoff and Dawn Toomer) were unable to play and were replaced by Di Sullivan (Seend) and Chris Smith (Atworth).

Together with Daphne Allington and John Gorringe, they beat Carole Bowles, Ann Revell, Pete Sullivan and Colin Waldeck.
