LAVINGTON School volleyball starlets Robyn Sayers and Jodie Amor agree that winning gold medals at the UK School Games on Sunday made for the best day of their lives.

The 15 year-old pair, who play for Devizes and Wiltshire Mavericks volleyball clubs, were part of the England South U16 squad that romped unbeaten to victory at Northumbria University.

Sayers, who plays setter, was making her second consecutive appearance at the Games but says this year’s success was the sweeter.

“It was the best experience of my life,” said the youngster, of Parham Lane in Market Lavington.

“Last year I wasn’t in the starting six but I played a lot more this time and felt I made more of a contribution.

“It was the most pressured competition I’ve played in and it feels really good to win.”

England South beat England North 25-14 and 25-11 in the final and outside hitter Amor was pleased with her display.

“I was really happy with how I played and I thought I had a good game in the final,” said the Great Cheverell youngster.

“It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done and the third year the England South have won . It was so good to be involved.”

Sayers has been part of the England Junior squad for a year while Amor has been invited to a trial in Kettering next Friday.

Matt Stevens coaches the pair at Devizes and Wiltshire Mavericks, and said: “It’s really good for them. They’re both good players and play in a national league with the Wiltshire side – it’s a big step forward.”

Devizes’ Joe Waterman and Rob Cannings competed for the boys’ U17 England South squad that finished fourth.
