WAYNE Thorne marked his first league appearance for Corsham Town since leaving as player-boss at Melksham Town at the end of last season with a goal in their 2-0 win at home to Welton Rovers.
Thorne struck from the penalty spot, striker Dan King also netting in front of a healthy crowd of 181 at the Southbank to ensure Town made a successful start to their Toolstation League Premier Division campaign.
There were contrasting fortunes for the two relegated Wiltshire sides in the First Division.
Calne Town got off to a flyer, defeating Cadbury Heath 3-1, but Melksham Town coming unstuck 2-1 at home to Hengrove Athletic, despite a goal from Gary Higdon.
Elsewhere, Bradford Town were beaten 2-0 at Bridport and Tommy Dryden's first league match in charge of Devizes Town ended in defeat, 4-1 by Chard Town.
In the Sydenhams Wessex League First Division, new boys Pewsey Vale made a solid start to the start of the season, as did Warminster Town under new boss Tom O'Brien.
Both sides drew 1-1, Pewsey with AFC Portchester and Warminster at home to Cowes Sports.
