TOBY Davies had a debut to remember on Saturday as he took four wickets and hit his side’s second-highest total, in Corsham’s five-wicket win over Glastonbury.

Saturday’s victory was the 17-year-old’s first appearance for the first-team after a handful of run-outs for Corsham’s second XI.

He proved instrumental as Pete Dennett’s side claimed only their sixth win of the season. It was the visitors who batted first, with Sam Mount leading the charge as he hit 94.

Grady Marsh was closest behind for Glastonbury with 27 while Charlie Ellison added 24.

Davies took his four for just ten runs while Quasim Khurshid also claimed three wickets, as the visitors were skittled for a competitive 222, in the 49th over.

Tom Hankins top-scored for Corsham, with 58 from 48 balls.

Opener Steve Bullen was one behind debutant Davies as he made 47 while Pete Turner added 34 as Dennett’s side reached 227-5 in the 44th over.

“It was a good start for Toby and you can tell from the way he carries himself and from the confidence he’s got that he’s suited for first-team cricket,” said the Corsham captain.

“He’s quite new to the club but it’s always encouraging to see a young player doing well. It was quite a comfortable win for us and we probably could have bowled them out a lot earlier than we did.

“They had Sam Mount, who’s a really decent player but getting the win is pleasing.

“I’m happy with where we are right now and I still think that we should be going for second in the league.”

Fourth-placed Corsham travel to second-placed Frocester this weekend.
