F.C Jager (formerly known as Melksham Jagerbar) have been fairly busy during the summer, in securing several signings to bolster their squad following their promotion to division three from division four. Player manager-Barry Holloway has also secured a number of surprise signings that will be sure to raise a few eyebrows.

Holloway's first big signing was the capture of former team mate at Miller Sports-Nick Evans. Evans is a highly regarded keeper and is arguably one of the best keepers in the league. His move may come as a bit of a surprise as Evans has stayed loyal to Miller Sports for many years and has been instrumental in their rise through the divisions. However, Evans became frustrated with life at Miller following their relegation from the Premier division last season and has now decided to call it a day at his beloved club. Evans may not feature as much as he did for Miller as his commitment to Westbury United on Saturdays means he will spend less time playing on Sundays. But he will provide superb cover for regular keeper-Dave Butler and there will be no surprises if he plays more than he is letting on at the moment when/if he gets the taste for it.

Holloway's side never really had too much trouble going forward last season but their downfall definitely came from their (at times) leaky defence. Holloway has worked hard to strengthen this area and has signed a solid centre back in Darren Whiting from fellow Melksham side-AFC Melksham. Whiting left AFC along with most of their other players following the resignation of manager Mickey Hawkes. Whiting is formidable in the air and providing Justin Messenger can stay fit, the two will provide an impressive defence. Along with Whiting, Holloway also managed to convince competitive midfielder/defender-Lee Jackson to follow suit from AFC Melksham. Although Jackson has expressed an interest in playing a lot less Sunday football this season but a good signing none the less for Jager.

Holloway also stoked the fire with fierce rivals-Cooper Avon by signing one of their players-Leigh Purps, who although didn't figure much for the tyremen last season, Purps was still a popular figure and Purps feels he has joined a better club.

Many say this was in response to Cooper signing Matthew Sharp from Jager-Sharp never featuring once for Jager last season but Holloway claims Purps is a player he wanted for a while./Midfielder/Striker-James Taylor has returned from a year in Australia and has agreed to sign for Jager to give Holloway further selection problems. The biggest test will be for Taylor to get fit following his spell down under but there is no doubt Taylor is a talented player. Taylor was a teammate of Holloway's in Miller Sports' double winning team several years ago and on his day, he is a definite match winner. Time will tell if he can squeeze his way into Holloway's already bulging squad.

Holloway has signed three big surprises and they all add a host of experience to his squad. / The first being the ex Melksham Town and Chippenham Town manager-Darren Perrin and along with him comes the current Melksham Town Assistant manager-Dave Clayton. Both have signed on first and foremost, as cover (Perrin as a goalkeeper and Clayton as a defender) but both have expressed an interest in helping Holloway coach some of the younger players. They bring a host of coaching experience with them and Holloway intends on working closely with both of them to bring out the best in some of the more youthful players. The third ageing star is twin brother of current Jager defender-Justin Messenger-Matty. Matty Messenger is a striker with a wealth of experience in leading the front line in many western league teams and again, will provide superb cover for any of the strikers Holloway has at his disposal. Matty played briefly for Kings Arms All Cannings at the start of last season but struggled with niggling injuries. His brother has convinced him to join forces at Jager as they look to work together once again as they have done in the past.
