Swindon will take a one goal lead into the second lef of this Wiltshire Premier Shield semi final after a hard-fought victory over a determined Chippenham side.

When Barry Corr gave the visitors the lead at the end of the first half it was expected that that their superior fitness levels would shine through and they would go on to secure a comfortable victory.

However it was Chippenham who took the game to their opponents in the second period and, much like their recent league form, deserved more out of a game where only consistently poor finishing let them down.

Robins caretaker boss David Byrne fielded a strong side packed with first team experience and only one debutant in young left back Callum Kennedy.

Chris Snoddy was the first keeper forced into action on ten minutes. A flick on from Blair Sturrock found Corr in space beyond the last defender. The young Irishman fired a shot off quickly but it was turned around the post for a corner.

The young keeper was nearly embarrassed minutes later when J.P. McGovern tried to catch him off his line with a free kick from 45 yards but his dipping effort went just over.

Mings was forced into a tactical change mid way through the first half when skipper Iain Harvey came off with a hip injury with Ashley Williams taking his place in midfield.

Corr again went close on the half hour mark but Snoddy produced a fine double save to turn away the free kick and the follow up effort from Jerel Ifil.

Belle, who had been booked for a tackle from behind on Corr, was lucky to avoid being sent off on 35 minutes after another tussle with the forward that saw him concede a free kick for handball.

Swindon made the breakthrough just before half time after a rare slip by left back Kevin Halliday.

The defender allowed a long ball to reach Barry Corr on the right whose first time ball found substitute Sam Morris to calmly place the ball past Snoddy at his near post.

Chippenham almost cancelled this out immediately after the restart when Joe White found himself in acres of space having lost his marker, visiting captain Hasney Aljofree.

However the 18-year-old almost had too much time to think about the shot, which posed more problems to the windows in the house behind the car park than goalkeeper Peter Brezovan.

The home side wasted another good chance to draw level on the hour mark when Sam Allison did well to beat his marker and get a cross in to find the onrushing Scott Lye from midfield, but his sliding effort was deflected wide.

Lye was again instrumental in another great chance on 69 minutes when his cross put the ball on a plate for Gullick to score at the back post, however the young winger blasted wide when it was easier to score past the prone Brezovan.

The 20-year-old had seemed nervous from the start and the exasperation on his teammates‘ faces was clear as they realised chances like that do not come along too often against opposition four leagues above them.

After picking up the ball on the half way line, full back Jake Gardener came close with a spectacular 30 yard drive on 81 minutes but his rising shot went inches wide of the post.

Gullick returned the earlier favour and played in Lye, who had broken from midfield, on the edge of the area but his shot forced another good save out of Brezovan.
