Village Cricket League: In Division One, Westerleigh recorded their first victory of the season in emphatic style defeating Thornbury by 121 runs.

Top scorer was Kevin Sibley with a spectacular 144 not out ably assisted by Richard Elliott (78) and Mark Millard (70).

Chasing WESTERLEIGH'S total of 311 was always a tall order and the visitors were bowled out for 180 with Richard Elliott taking 4-20.

In a high scoring match at SUTTON BENGER, the home side totalled 235-7 with Rich Gaunt (61) and Mark Hunt (44) setting the pace.

A spirited CORSHAM reply fell thirty runs short despite the effort of Tom Abbott (55). Impressive bowling for the visitors came from Chris Watsman (4-31) and Paul Rignall (4-41) Dan Blackwell (80) and Ali Bell (51) were in good form as HAWKESBURY UPTON scored 215-7 in windy conditions.

HAMBROOK in response could only manage 188-6 despite useful contributions from Edwards (56) and Landge (43).

BIDDESTONE recorded their third successive win, defeating PUCKLECHURCH by 63 runs. Batting first, the Wiltshire side scored 177-9 thanks mainly to the batting of Andrew Lawton and Mike Flynn who both scored 43. PUCKLECHURCH stumbled to 114-9 with man of the match, Lawton and Penton claiming three wickets each.

In Division Two, it was a very close affair in the match between WICKWAR and BIDDESTONE. The visitors set 168 led by James Howells (67) and in reply, WICKWAR despite skipper, Jack Hewitt's brave effort, (76) fell four runs short. Some excellent bowling came from BIDDESTONE debutant, Gary Young (4-6) in four overs.

LYDIARD MILLICENT recorded their first League victory of the season defeating CHARFIELD who are still looking for theirs by eight wickets. CHARFIELD scored only 66: the damage with the ball coming from John Haskins (6-22).

BADMINTON achieved their third consecutive victory defeating COALPIT HEATH in a very close game. Batting first, BADMINTON made 166, led by Sam Vile (50): the visitors in reply were all out for 150 with Dave Williamson top scoring (32).

CHIPPING SODBURY finished their innings on 219-7 thanks to Jay Reynolds (73) and Adrian Forrester (64 not out). GRITTLETON finished 75 runs short with Ben Doidge taking 3-9.
